PECULIARITIES OF TEACHING ENGLISH FOR PROFESSIONAL PURPOSES AT NON-LINGUISTIC UNIVERSITY
Abstract: Foreign language communication is an essential component of the professional activity of a specialist, regardless of his/her field of training. The aim of language learning at non-linguistic university is not only to master communication skills but also to get knowledge in specialty. The students need to accumulate professionally oriented vocabulary, special terms and phrases to be able to read and understand professional texts. Taking an exam (e.g. KROK at medical university) may be another important aim. Special attention should be paid to grasping of highly-specialized terms, principles of making frequency vocabulary and special tasks, which not only stimulate the students to read special literature in English, but also can promote to the practical use of acquired knowledge. So, the choice of methods which stimulate the students to read special literature, to learn strictly-specialized terms and to use the acquired knowledge practically, as well as their combination and integration in the educational process of non-linguistic university is considered to be very urgent.
