During the past two years of COVID pandemic a large part of the scientific community has focused its attention on the development of COVID vaccines, COVID treatments and safety measures to palliate this situation. However, the current situation has not considerably improved; the pandemic is not over yet, there is a high pressure in the global transport of goods and all the consequences of the invasion of Ukraine are setting in. In this difficult time how could Life Science contribute to improve the quality of life? What does the scientific community need to focus on?

The Chance for Science Network together with Getinge are looking forward to honoring those authors with outstanding, creative and innovative scientific approaches in this field of Life Science.

Getinge provides hospitals and life science institutions with products and solutions aiming to improve clinical results and optimize workflows. The offering includes products and solutions for intensive care, cardiovascular procedures, operating rooms, sterile reprocessing and life science. It is operating in 40 countries and has more than 10,700 employees.

The award of the Best Paper Competition is endowed with €500 and is sponsored by Getinge.

Papers may contain succinct, innovative and creative scientific approaches or solutions to improve the quality of Life in the current time affected by the COVID pandemic and the consequences of the war in Ukraine. However, those are mere examples, papers may address other problem areas in the field of Life Science as well.

How to participate – the 3 steps

Step 1 – Turning in your Paper

Papers eligible for the competition should be no longer than 5 pages. Co-authored papers are accepted, the co-authors may submit a joint written paper and may share the award. The award is directed at young scientists. Authors must not be older than 35 when submitting their paper.

To be considered for the Award, the paper must be submitted until August 7, 2022 on the website www.chance-for-science.eu.

Step 2 – Reviewing Process and Selection

The winning paper is chosen by a committee consisting of specialists and representatives of Getinge. The selection will be based on the quality of the applicant’s submission.

The committee will evaluate the paper submitted based on the following criteria:

  • creative approach to scientific solutions in the field of life science
  • innovative capability of the scientific solutions
  • practicability and originality of the approach

Step 3 – Award Ceremony and Discussion during the Chance for Science Conference 2022

The Award for the winning paper will be handed out during the Chance for Science Conference on September 8 and 9, 2022. The winning participant will receive a grant of €500 and the opportunity to present their work or project to the audience of the Conference during a discussion session.

  • An award of 500 euros will be awarded to the first author accepted for a presentation at the Chance for Science conference with the main research focus on Renewable Energy.
  • Each abstract submission within a relevant research topic will automatically enter the competition for this award.
  • Eligible authors must be affiliated with a Ukrainian research institution (or were affiliated until February 24, 2022)
  • No age limit applies

Essay Competition – Resilience Award

Call for Participation

 

Next to forcing many people to relocate to safe territory and leading to the tragic loss of many human lives, the war in Ukraine has caused a variety of hurdles and risks that businesses are facing as well. “Resilience” becomes a more and more important factor in facing obstacles like scarcity of resources, fragmented supply chains or rising energy prices and costs. Both the Ukrainian and German economy are affected by the negative consequences of the war and other crises.

 

The Chance for Science Network together with Dr. Jens Katzek, member of the Expert Council “Transformation in the Automotive Industry” initiated by Robert Habeck, Federal Minister of Economics, are looking forward to honoring those authors with outstanding, creative and innovative scientific solutions in the field of resilience of businesses in times of crises like the Russian aggression in Ukraine. The award of the Essay Competition is endowed with 500€ and is sponsored by Automotive Cluster Ostdeutschland GmbH (ACOD), where Dr. Katzek is Managing Director.

 

Essays may contain succinct, innovative and practicable scientific solutions to issues like maintaining operational processes even in times of crises or how to recover quickly from such events; strong adaptability of businesses in general or their controlling departments in specific; resilient cost and earning structures and reducing dependencies; investing in automation and digitization to counter the lack of qualified personnel. However, those are mere examples, essays may address other problem areas in the field of resilience as well.

Especially in the era of globalization and internationalization, ethical values in economics are becoming increasingly important to consumers and companies alike. With the progressive development of a globalized world, problem areas of business ethics grow more complex, besides the general dilemma of how to connect economics and ethics and how to overcome their differences.  

The Chance for Science Network together with the foundation Stiftung Haus Wienemann are looking forward to honoring those authors with outstanding, creative and innovative scientific approaches in the field of business ethics. Since 1992, Stiftung Haus Wienemann has offered specialist lecture events in which renowned experts discuss selected current topics and fundamental issues in the field of business ethics. The award of the Essay Competition is endowed with €500 and is sponsored by the foundation.

Essays may contain succinct, innovative and creative scientific approaches to issues like personal responsibility and self-determination in the welfare state, intergenerational and gender equality, sustainability based on resource-saving principles, Corporate Social Responsibility, compliance, consumer ethics or equitable distribution. However, those are mere examples, essays may address other problem areas in the field of business ethics as well.
